Gemma Telfer aged 18 hails from Rothley Crag in Northumberland! She began playing the Accordion aged 10 and from there on discovered her passion for Scottish and Irish Traditional Music. Gemma played in many bands as a young teenager which saw her travel the UK and most notably involved a 2 week tour of New York and Boston.
Gemma has won numerous Competitions on Accordion in Northumberland and has also achieved playing at the Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann 4 times as a solo competitor. In 2010 she won the Christopher Meade Scholarship from The Tyneside Irish Centre for Youth Achievement, enabling her to study at The Meitheal Summer School in Ireland. Gemma has been awarded three Trinity Guildhall Performance Certificates for Accordion.
She is currently a Second Year Student at The Royal Conservatoire of Scotland studying a BA (Hons) in Scottish Traditional Music. Since moving to Glasgow to study Gemma has been part of the renowned Celtic Connections Festival two years running.
